Art is the expression of ones feelings related to a certain objective or situation. Of course it could also be an interpretation of anything actually. Freedom is found in art because it has no restrictions or boundaries except the one you decide to set yourself.
Discipline is a force that helps us, prevent ourselves from making the same mistakes, but it can also easily get us on in a one-track frame of mind. This leads to all kinds of obligations and guilt trips that kill creativity and spontaneity.

The Art is to free the mind of any restriction and to express your freedom by exceeding your own boundaries and limitations. Think outside the container.

Make it happen.

If you know yourself,

acknowledge yourself,

discipline yourself,

express yourself.

Be Art...

I have a lot of art related history and I seem to always be on the look out for new ways of expressing ideas.

A long line of artists

My grandparents met at the Royal Art Academy in The Hague. My parents were both natural artists. Especially my dad pursued artistic freedom. In the sixties he graduated Cal.Poly with an agricultural degree. He worked with some of his friends as a landscape architect for a few years before getting a camera. Since then he's been traveling all over the world making National Geographic Photography.
His first real opportunity was working on the Steve McQueen movie "Le Mans" in France. A great deal of his friends are some how related though art and make a good living with it. Unfortunately my dad was a 'van Gogh' and never made a dime, which didn't bother him the least bit. He remained true to himself and his art. I think that's why it's worth so much now.

Laguna Beach

I was practically born in Laguna. Laguna Beach is a haven for artists of all kinds. Ones a year they have great festivals for local artists to expose their art. The Sawdust festival is my favorite, because it's more a mix of arts and crafts. Live art and creation on the spot.

Idyllwild

I grew up in Idyllwild, a small town in the Sierra's of California. This to is an artist haven. The mountains as well as the beach have inspired art throughout history. Idyllwild is a special place on earth where artists go to exercise their right to freedom. The Idyllwild Arts Academy is one of the enrichments as well as the summer festivities.

The Hague

When we first move to Holland in 1986, my mom met up with her friends and we where introduced to the Dutch world of art. One of the first people we met was B. Zuurmond, a young entrepreneur who was just marketing his first invention. Later he introduced an art gallery named "Kunstpassage" as concept to utilize some of the nicest monumental buildings of The Hague as well as prevent squatters from taking over and abusing them. The concept has become a phenomenon and is still generating expositions to this day.

Nature

I love the outdoors. Unfortunately there is no real nature here in Holland. I have to accept that man-made landscape and conditional nature is the closest thing around. Sometimes it can be just as inspiring or more, especially for me as a landscape architect.
The way we create nature here in Holland is by creating circumstances and conditions to develop nature. Processes that already take place in nature inspire these circumstances. For example: Erosion and Sedimentation or Succession.

The City

Town is a great place to get inspired. Just sit back and relax anywhere where there are people passing and just take notices of the behaviors of others. It can be hilarious or amusing or revoking but it's always good entertainment. Of course the regular party or cafe can provide the same entertainment, but it's much less inspired than finding your own spot.

I've heard of a guy who enjoys going to the train station in the morning to watch people hurry to work just before he gets ready to hit the sack. It's not what I would choose to do, but I can imagine that it can be really relaxing to see the world turning especially if you don't have to worry about it.

Places

Parks - offer many nice places to relax and enjoy your day, experience the elements

Stations - are a great place to see how and where people move to and from, notice some of their expressions

Squares - are where streets come together and people can slow down, see how functions dominate behavior
